Prospect Potent Potables - Munoz, Mitchell, Adrianza, Rays, Royals

• The Oakland A's have signed 16-year-old Dominican shortstop Yairo Munoz, reports Ben Badler of Baseball America.
• Jared Mitchell is trying to put a lost season and another disappointing one behind him, says Scott Merkin of MLB.com.  Mitchell will be in White Sox camp this spring as a non-roster invitee.
• Giants SS prospect Ehrie Adrianza will always be a better defender than a hitter, but as Andy Baggerly points out for Baseball America, his bat closed the gap between the two last season.
• The Rays have announced their non-roster invites to Spring Training, including a pair of shortstops Tim Beckham and Hak-Ju Lee, reports Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times.
• The Royals have also announced their Spring Training invites, which include a quartet of pitchers - Mike Montgomery, Will Smith, Chris Dwyer, and Jake Odorizzi - and outfielder Wil Myers, according to Dick Kaegel of MLB.com.

 

Prospect Action - 10/27/11

Arizona Fall League

• The World Series wasn't the only place in the baseball world we got to see a walk-off home run.  In Scottsdale, the Bryce Harper Legend got another chapter, as the Nationals OF hit a 3-run bomb in the bottom of the ninth, with his team trailing by two.
• Padres OF Jaff Decker scored the go-ahead run in the 11th inning, one of two runs he scored on the day, to lead his Javelinas to a 7-5 victory.
• A pair of Royals prospects, 2B Christian Colon and OF Wil Myers, each homered for the Saguaros, en route to their 5-3 victory.

 

 

Prospect Action - 10/24/11

Arizona Fall League

• An RBI Double by A's OF Michael Choice helped lead his Desert Dogs to a 4-1 victory.
• Angels OF Mike Trout had two hits and Giants SS Joe Panik hit his first home run of the AFL season, but it wasn't enough offense, despite a solid start from Nationals P Sammy Solis, to defeat the Javelinas.
• Royals OF Wil Myers had three of the Saguaros ten hits and drove in three of their eight runs en route to an 8-3 victory.

No other winter league action on Monday.

 

 

Prospect Action - 10/20/11

Arizona Fall League

• The Desert Dogs won a 10-9 barnburner, thanks to a 3-for-4 day at the plate for Blue Jays OF Anthony Gose.  Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett collected three more hits in the loss, but was outdone by Padres 3B Jedd Goryko, who went 5-for-5.  Brewers P Cody Scarpetta got the start for the Javelinas, but gave up seven earned runs and failed to record an out.
• Pirates P Gerrit Cole notched his first AFL win, throwing three scoreless innings for the Solar Sox, notes David Heck of MLB.com.
• Saguaros pitching walked seven batters in the game, leading to their 7-2 loss, despite three hits from Royals OF Wil Myers.

Mexican Pacific League

• Yankees P Pat Venditte threw a scoreless inning for a second straight day, helping his Aguilad de Mexicali defeat Angels SS Andrew Romine, who went 0-for-4 on the day.

 

 

Odds and Ends - Starling, Borchering, Montero

• Bubba Starling, the Kansas City Royals top pick in this year's draft, has been out since Tuesday with a strained quadriceps muscle in his left leg, but he hopes to be back by the end of the instructional league, according to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star.  Fellow prospect Wil Myers is also in Arizona, playing in the Arizona Fall League, and trying to get back on track after his worst professional season, notes Dutton in a different article.
• The Diamondbacks have opened up their logjam at third base that included Matt Davidson and Bobby Borchering splitting time by moving Borchering to left field, reports Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.  Davidson had been splitting his time between the hot corner and DH, while Borchering had been shuffling back and forth between third and first base.  Both should start the season in Double-A and will now be able to be in the lineup and in the field at the same time.
• Kody Sinze showed off his power in two leagues this year, and the Astros 1B prospect has continued his barrage in the Arizona Fall League, says Farmstros.com.
• Jesus Montero will either be a major part of the Yankees next season or will be traded, according to Mark Feinsand and Peter Botte of The New York Daily News.
