Houston Astros pitching prospect Vincent Velazquez had Tommy John surgery last Wednesday and will be beginning the long rehabilitation process soon, reports Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
Velasquez was selected out of high school in the 2nd round of this year's draft and made 8 appearances (6 starts) for the Astros Rookie-level team in Greeneville after signing. He posted a 3.07 ERA and a 0.989 WHIP in 29 1/3 IP.
He will likely miss the entire 2011 season and is aiming to make his return in next year's fall instructional league.
