Prospect Action - 6/24/12

Triple-A

• Andrew Carraway was much better than his last time out, as the Mariners prospect allowed three runs in 7 1/3 innings, reports Mike Curto of The [Tacoma] News Tribune.
• Jeff Locke dropped to 5-4 on the season, as the Pirates lefty lasted just five innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, says Nancy Zinni of PiratesProspects.com.

Double-A

• A pair of third base prospects showed why their respective teams are excited about them on Sunday, as Wilmer Flores of the Mets collected four hits in a winning effort, despite Nick Casellanos of the Tigers adding three hits of his own, including his third home run since being promoted to Double-A, reports Tom Reisenweber of The Erie Times-News.
• Astros pitching prospect Jarred Cosart threw six scoreless innings against a prospect-laden lineup from Frisco, extending his scoreless innings streak to 15, says Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com.
• Braves pitching prospect David Hale threw eight shutout innings to secure a victory on Sunday, reports Doug Segrest of The Birmingham News.

High-A

• Brandon Workman shut down the Carolina League's best offense, as the Red Sox prospect threw seven innings, allowing just two hits, writes John Dell of The Winston-Salem Journal.
• Rockies prospect Tyler Matzek earned his fifth win of the season on Sunday, striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings of work to out pitch A's prospect Ian Krol, who gave up four earned runs over six innings.

Low-A

• Mason Williams fell just a triple short of the cycle on Sunday, making it the second straight game the Yankees outfield prospect has homered, according to Jonathan Raymond of MiLB.com.
• Phillies left-hander Ethan Stewart got the best of Alex Meyer on Sunday, throwing six innings of one hit baseball to beat the Nationals prospect, who struck out a career-high 11 batters in the outing, says Andrew Pentis of MiLB.com.
• Kyle Smith, who the Royals just promoted to full-season ball, threw six no-hit innings in his first start at the new level, while striking out six in the process, notes Ashley Marshall of MiLB.com.
• Nick Tropeano advanced to 6-4 on the season throwing six shutout innings, according to The Lexington Herald-Ledger.

Rookie

• Keon Barnum is off to a torrid start to his major league career, as the White Sox supplemental first rounder from this year's draft homered for the third straight game, says Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com.
