Making Moves - 4/27

• The St. Louis Cardinals had a domino effect of moves Monday, coinciding with Felipe Lopez heading to the disabled list, but the prospect moves we are concerned with here at MLBPW are the promotion of OF prospect John Jay and the optioning of INF/OF Allen Craig to Triple-A, reports FutureRedbirds.com.  The moves were confirmed by Derrick Gould of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
• Buster Posey may be in San Francisco sooner than expected, this according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.  The general consensus was that the Giants would wait until June to recall Posey to the majors, mainly for contractual reasons, but also because they do not feel they can guarantee him enough playing time to warrant a promotion.  The struggles of both catcher Bengie Molina and 1B Aurbey Huff (the two positions Posey is currently playing in Triple-A), however, have increased the possibility of action by the team.
• Jacob Turner, the top prospect in the Detroit TIgers organization who is currently on the DL with forearm stiffness, is eligible to return Thursday, reports Gary Bond of the Grand Rapids Press.  The team has not announced their plans for Turner's return or when he will make his next start.

Today's links are dressed in their Sunday best...

• Trevor Reckling has impressed recently in Angels camp, reports Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.
• Sergio Santos has had a long road to the majors, reports Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, and that includes a number of years as a hitter.  Santos was originally drafted as a short stop in the Diamondbacks' organization but has resurrected his career as a pitcher and now has a chance to be a part of the White Sox pitching staff.
• The St. Louis Cardinals sent down a couple of young players that may not be the most highly touted in the prospect world but had a chance to make the team nonetheless, says Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  Those players were Tyler Greene and John Jay, both of whom will probably seem time in the Gateway City at some point during the 2010 season.
• The Reds are still letting their prospects duke it out for the final spot in their rotation, according to Tom Singer of MLB.com.  With Aroldis Chapman out of the mix, it's now down to Mike Leake and Travis Wood.

Any Help in a Thin Cards' System?

There may not be a ton of talent on the St. Louis Cardinals' farm system after last season's trades for Matt Halladay and Mark DeRosa, but Derrick Gould of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has five names for us that could play a role for the big league club in 2010.  Gould mentions a few names you may know (David Freese, Allen Craig, and John Jay), and a few you may not (Eduardo Sanchez and Pete Parise).

The Cardinals don't have many holes on their big league roster, but 3B, LF, and in the bullpen are spots where prospects could earn a shot in Spring Training.
