Making Moves - 6/10

• Jake Arrieta has been promoted by the Baltimore Orioles and will start Thursday night's game against the New York Yankees, reports Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.  Welcome to the bigs, Jake.
• Brewers' catching prospect Angel Salome is now a Brewers' outfield prospect, reports Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.  Salome told the club he no longer wants to catch, so he is being sent down to A-ball to work on converting to the outfield.
• Jarrod Parker is throwing off a mound twice a week as a part of his recovery from Tommy John surgery, reports Nick Piecoro and Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic.  Parker and the Diamondbacks hope to have him throw in some minor league games by August.
• We have some early draft pick signings, including some first rounders...
• • The Phillies have come to terms with 1st rounder Jason Biddle, although couldn't officially sign him until after his high school graduation, tweets Matt Gelb.  Biddle will likely join the Gulf Coast League Phillies upon signing.  The Phillies also signed second round pick Perci Garner, reports Luke Adams of MLB Trade Rumors.
  • The Rangers have signed both of their first round picks, as Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com tweets that No. 15 pick Jake Skole has signed for $1.557M and Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus tweets that No. 22 pick Kellin Delgan has inked for $1M exactly.

Making Moves - 5/28

• Arizona Diamondbacks' top prospect Jarrod Parker is back on the mound on the road to recovery from Tommy John surgery, reports Steve Gilbert of MLB.com.  Parker had surgery last October and is just beginning to throw.
• Also on the long road back from injury is Jared Mitchell, but the White Sox' prospect is ahead of schedule, says Jeff Buchanan of Future Sox.com.
• Jason Castro should be in Houston at some point this season, reports Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle.
• Mike Stanton is coming, reports Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, whether the Marlins' outfielders are ready or not.  Joe Frisaro of MLB.com goes over the Marlins' options for getting everyone enough at-bats.
• Orioles' prospect Kieron Pope is back in action after recovering from a broken leg, writes Noah Rosenstein of MLB.com.
• Jack Moore of FanGraphs.com makes the latest case for Buster Posey's promotion to San Francisco.
• The Cubs have put Andrew Cashner in their Triple-A bullpen in order to get him ready for a relief role in the majors later in the season, reports Carrie Muskat of MLB.com.  Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times adds his input as well.  The Cubs made a similar move with fellow prospect Jay Jackson earlier this season, and either or both could be at Wrigley this year.
• Basebal America has their weekly transaction report, which includes a few moves that slipped under the radar, including:

  • Zack Wheeler (SF) to the 7-day DL (fingernail...seriously)

Prospect Potent Potables - 5/20

Stephen Strasburg is still good, just in case you were wondering.

• Carlos Peguero is off to the start the Mariners have always expected from him, reports John Hickey for Baseball America, but keep him mind that he's 23-years-old and in Double-A, which is getting just old enough to take a grain of salt with his performance.
• Diamondbacks' pitcher Wes Roemer is heading to Triple-A, tweets Matt Eddy.  And speaking of D-Backs-related tweets, Jarrod Parker, the team's top prospect despite Tommy John surgery, says he will throw off a mound on Monday for the first time since the operation.  Isn't Twitter great?
• As Cody Overbeck is trying to prove to the Phillies, sometimes struggling is just a matter of being injured and not knowing it, says Lee Diekemper of MiLB.com.
• The Rangers' farm system is deep enough that Jamey Newberg of MLB.com found 10 non-fastball pitches worth talking about among their pitchers, and ranked them for us.  It's worth noting that if one pitcher has the 2nd and 4th best off-speed pitches in a system this deep (as Martin Perez does on this list) and also throws in the high 90's, then he might be pretty darn good.
• Edgar Osuna has to be having the best season of any player who was offered back to his old team after the Rule V draft (Atlanta), but was turned down and was allowed to stay with his even worse team (KC).  Not that that's a huge group.
• You probably thought it was over long ago, but just now is the Wagner Mateo saga is finally complete.

Parker Ready To Throw

No more than 6 months after what appears to have been a successful Tommy John surgery, Jarrod Parker has been cleared to begin throwing again, reports Steve Gilbert for MLB.com.  The right-handed pitcher is the Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect even after being forced to shut it down in August.

Tommy John surgery typically knocks a player out for a full season, but Dr. James Andrews, who performed the operation, seemed to think that Parker could be back throwing again by the All-Star Break.

Bad news for the Arizona Diamondbacks as top pitching prospect Jarrod Parker will undergo Tommy John surgery, likely ending his 2010 season before it began, reports Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.  Parker was shut down early this year, had tried to come back on a throwing program this fall, but experienced pain once again, leaving surgery as the only option.
