Gordon Beckham Update

Despite the circus of hype and excitement on the south side of Chicago surrounding the debut of Gordon Beckham, the White Sox still managed to get shut out on Thursday night.  Manager Ozzie Guillen had a few entertaining words regarding Beckham's debut, while Tony Ginnetti of the Chicago Sun Times has a few updates on Beckham's anticipated playing time and what it does to some other White Sox.

We do have some sort of verification from White Sox GM Kenny Williams that Gordon Beckham is not just in Chicago to fill a need, but is in fact up for the long haul, reports Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun Times.

Beckham is making his debut at 3B and batting 8th in the White Sox lineup.

9:33 a.m. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, about as old school of a manager as you'll find in the majors today, refuses to fuel the hype machine surrounding Gordon Beckham, but as Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun Times reports, he has given us a little more information regarding Beckham's useage in the majors.  As expected, the White Sox lineup will be a revolving door for a little while until Guillen finds a mix that fits, but you can bet that Beckham will be in the lineup somewhere almost evey day.

12:04 a.m. As a fitting end to what has been a busy day in the world of baseball transactions, The Associated Press is reporting that the Chicago White Sox have called up top prospect Gordon Beckham.  It is unknown whether Beckham will see regular playing time at second base, short stop, or third base, but it is assumed he will be in the lineup regularly and will likely see time at all three positions.

Matt Eddy of Baseball America breaks down a number of the players who have been on the move in the past week.  Highlights include:

• Casey Kelly and Bryan Price (BOS) promoted to High-A Salem
• Gordon Beckham (CWS) promoted to Triple-A Charlotte
• Yonder Alonso (CIN) promoted to Double-A Carolina
• Christian Friedrich (COL) promoted to High-A Modesto
• Jemile Weeks (OAK) promoted to High-A Stockton
• Various assignments from last year's international signees

In addition to the information from BA, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Oakland A's pitching prospect Vin Mazzaro will join an already young A's rotation, and Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Phillies former first-round pick Kyle Drabek has been promoted to Double-A Reading.
