The San Francisco Giants have promoted top pitching prospect Eric Surkamp to make his first career major league start on Saturday night, reports John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Surkamp will be taking the place of injured starter Jonathan Sanchez in the Giants rotation, and if he pitches well, could remain there for the duration of the season, or at least until Sanchez is healthy. Surkamp is the Giants top pitching prospect and is making the jump to the majors from Double-A Richmond, where he was 10-4 with a 2.02 ERA this season.
