Injuries, position switches, and debuts galore, and we're only on day two of the season.
- Tim Beckham will start the season on the DL, reports Jim Donten of RaysProspects.com. Beckham has a wrist injury, which severely zap power at the plate when players try to play through them.
- Also heading to the DL is Samuel Gervacio, according to Bernando Fallas of the Houston Chronicle. Gervacio made one appearance with the Houston Astros in the Astros' second game of the season, but had to leave the game early due to discomfort in his throwing shoulder.
- Despite being moved to right field last season, Bill Rowell is moving back to third base this year in his third crack at the Carolina League, reports Dean Jones Jr. of the Baltimore Sun. Rowell, the Orioles' first round pick in 2006, has been a disappointment so far and is on the verge of being a complete bust.
- Jenrry Mejia made his major league debut on Wednesday, but it was made very clear that the Mets were going to start the 20-year-old out in a non-pressure situation, notes Marty Noble of MLB.com. The decision proved wise as Mejia was touched for a run in his inning of work.
