Prospect Potent Potables - Gose, Indians, Mets, Cardinals

• The Blue Jays want Anthony Gose to use his speed more, and to use it more effectively, including bunting more often, reports Larry Millson for Baseball America.
• The Indians don't have a ton of talent in their farm system, but they have some players who are entering important years in their careers, notes Jim Piasick of IndiansProspectInsider.com.  He names Cord Phelps, Nick Weglarz, Jason Knapp, Beau Mills, and LeVon Washington, and breaks down what each needs to do to get headed back in the right direction.
• The Mets are planning a prospects vs. veterans game on March 3rd or 4th, according to Michael Baron of MetsBlog.com.
• The Cardinals are holding a early prospect camp, reports Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.  The link has the full list of prospects, which includes Carlos Martinez and Oscar Taveras.

Prospect Action - 10/20/11

Arizona Fall League

• The Desert Dogs won a 10-9 barnburner, thanks to a 3-for-4 day at the plate for Blue Jays OF Anthony Gose.  Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett collected three more hits in the loss, but was outdone by Padres 3B Jedd Goryko, who went 5-for-5.  Brewers P Cody Scarpetta got the start for the Javelinas, but gave up seven earned runs and failed to record an out.
• Pirates P Gerrit Cole notched his first AFL win, throwing three scoreless innings for the Solar Sox, notes David Heck of MLB.com.
• Saguaros pitching walked seven batters in the game, leading to their 7-2 loss, despite three hits from Royals OF Wil Myers.

Mexican Pacific League

• Yankees P Pat Venditte threw a scoreless inning for a second straight day, helping his Aguilad de Mexicali defeat Angels SS Andrew Romine, who went 0-for-4 on the day.

 

 

Prospect Action - Weekend Wrap-Up

Saturday, October 15th

Arizona Fall League

• Pirates OF Robbie Grossman and Cubs SS Junior Lake each hit their third home run of the AFL season, helping their Solar Sox to a 14-3 victory.
• Red Sox P Brock Huntzinger got touched up for five earned runs in four innings, including giving up an RBI double to Mariners SS Nick Franklin.  Nationals P Matt Purke threw two innings of relief in the loss, giving up a run.
• Diamondbacks OF Adam Eaton had a double, a homer and three RBI's in the Rafters 8-7 victory over the Desert Dogs.  The Desert Dogs had 13 hits in the loss, including a triple and a homer from Blue Jays OF Anthony Gose.

Venezuelan Winter League

• Rangers P Wilfredo Boscan threw five scoreless innings en route to picking up the victory for his Aguilas de Zulia.
• Brewers OF Caleb Gindl reached base three times, but it wasn't nearly enough offense for his Leones del Caracas, who fell 6-3 to the Caribes de Anzoategui.

 

Sunday, October 16th

Venezuelan Winter League

• Pirates OF Gorkys Hernandez went 1-for-3 and scored two runs in the Caribes de Anzoategui 9-3 victory.
• Rangers P Tanner Scheppers gave away the lead, but his Navegantes del Magallanes came back to win 7-6.  Twins OF Joe Benson went 0-for-4 in the loss.

 

 

Prospect Action - 10/14/11

• The Rafters outlasted the Desert Dogs 7-5, despite an 11-hit attack, including two by Blue Jays OF Anthony Gose in the loss.  Dodgers SS Jake Lemmerman continued to struggle in the victory, notes Jared Massey of LADodgerTalk.com.
• Pirates P Gerrit Cole got touched up for three earned runs in 2 1/3 innings in his professional debut, but touched 100 MPH, reports Ashley Marshall of MLB.com.  Cole's Rafters fell to the Saguaros 16-8, behind a 4-for-6 day at the plate by Rays SS Tim Beckham, RaysProspects.com points out.

• The Javelinas were victorious thanks to two home runs by Padres 3B Jedd Gyorko.  Teammate Jaff Decker homered as well in the 14-5 blowout.

 

 

Prospect Action - 10/5/11

• The Phoenix Desert Dogs topped the Mesa Solar Sox in a typical Arizona Fall League day that saw the ball jumping off of hitter's bats.  Pirates OF prospect Robbie Grossman hit his second homer in as many AFL games for Mesa in the loss, and Cubs SS prospect Junior Lake went 3-for-4 and hit his first homer of the fall.  That offense wasn't enough for Mesa to compare to what Phoenix did, as Blue Jays OF prospect Anthony Gose and A's prospect Grant Green each contributed a home run to the Desert Dogs' 4-blast onslaught.
• The Suprise Saguaros unleashed a 10-run, 14-hit attack on the Scottsdale Scorpions on Wednesday, led by Rangers 3B prospect Mike Olt, who homered twice and drove in five runs.  Also homering for the Saguaros were Rays SS Tim Beckham and Royals RF WIl Myers.  Braves C Christian Bethancourt went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate as well for Surprise.  The potent Scorpions lineup mustered just two hits, one of which was a triple by Giants CF Gary Brown, who scored the team's only run.  Nationals OF Bryce Harper went 0-for-3 with a strikeout.
• Fellow Brewers prospects Scooter Gennett and Logan Schafer each had three hits en route to leading the Peoria Javelinas to a 13-7 victory on Wednesday evening.  Rockies CF Tim Wheeler and Diamondbacks 3B Ryan Wheeler each had multi-hit games for Salt River in the loss.
