Prospect Transactions

The list of minor league players released by their teams includes many that even the most ardent prospect followers aren't familiar with...mainly because they're not prospects.  But a look through the full list (courtesy of Baseball America) does reveal a few former prospect names that will now be looking for a new organization.

Just because they were released doesn't mean these players are no longer prospects, but it certainly dulls the shine they once had.  Notable names include:

• Mitch Atkins (CHC)
• Clevelan Santeliz (CWS)
• Matt Pagnozzi (STL)
• Ryan Royster (TB)
• Angel Salome (MIL)

Salome could a nice pickup for a team with room on their 40-man roster, argues R.J. Anderson of FanGraphs.com, as no one has ever doubted his hitting ability, just how effective he can be as a corner outfielder after having made the decision that no longer wanted to catch.

 

 

Prospect Potent Potables - 8/22

• Indians' prospect Alex White has struggled in his past few starts and Cleveland.com speculates whether or not White is tiring as he reaches the end of his first full pro season.
• Playing some OF these days as he tries to work his way back to Milwaukee, former catching prospect Angel Salome had a monster day at the plate on Saturday, reports Robert Emrich of MLB.com.
• Tyler Moore may be the hottest hitter in the minors, as the Nationals' 1B prospect hit two more homers on Saturday, giving him 28 on the season, reports John Parker of MLB.com.
• The Yankee U has scouting reports on Yankee pitching prospects Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances, and PhuturePhillies.com has a scouting report on Phillies' catching prospect Sebastian Valle.

Making Moves - 6/10

• Jake Arrieta has been promoted by the Baltimore Orioles and will start Thursday night's game against the New York Yankees, reports Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com.  Welcome to the bigs, Jake.
• Brewers' catching prospect Angel Salome is now a Brewers' outfield prospect, reports Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.  Salome told the club he no longer wants to catch, so he is being sent down to A-ball to work on converting to the outfield.
• Jarrod Parker is throwing off a mound twice a week as a part of his recovery from Tommy John surgery, reports Nick Piecoro and Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic.  Parker and the Diamondbacks hope to have him throw in some minor league games by August.
• We have some early draft pick signings, including some first rounders...
• • The Phillies have come to terms with 1st rounder Jason Biddle, although couldn't officially sign him until after his high school graduation, tweets Matt Gelb.  Biddle will likely join the Gulf Coast League Phillies upon signing.  The Phillies also signed second round pick Perci Garner, reports Luke Adams of MLB Trade Rumors.
  • The Rangers have signed both of their first round picks, as Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com tweets that No. 15 pick Jake Skole has signed for $1.557M and Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus tweets that No. 22 pick Kellin Delgan has inked for $1M exactly.

Making Moves - 4/23

• Derek Norris, the Washington Nationals top catching prospect, is headed to the disabled list reports Nationals Farm Authority.
• Another catching prospect, Jonathan Lucroy of the Milwaukee Brewers was promoted to Triple-A, notes Bryan Smith of Fan Graphs.com.  Lucroy was only in Double-A because the Brewers have fellow catching prospect Angel Salome in Triple-a and didn't want the two splitting time, but Salome has left the team for a few days and Lucroy was promoted to take his place.
• Kansas City Royals 3B prospect Mike Moustakas, who began the season on the DL with a strained oblique, is back on the field and in Double-A for the first time, and hit two home runs in his first game, reports Dan Tomasino of MLB.com.
• The New York Mets are considering moving 1B Ike Davis up in the lineup, both because of his hot start and because they need his left-handed bat to break up the three righties that currently make up the middle of their lineup, reports Andy Martino of the NY Daily News.
