• The Houston Astros have made a major financial committment in Latin America, signing 6'4" Dominican OF Ariel Ovando to a significant contract, reports MLB.com.
• Phuture Phils.com has some unique insight on some of the pitchers in the Phillies organization with quotes coming directly from Phillies' minor league pitching coordinator Gordan Heimueller, including info on Trevor May, Matt Way, Jonathan Pettibone, and Brody Colvin.  Meanwhile, Lee Diekemper of MLB.com reports that Austin Hyatt's success this season can be attributed to the resurgence of his plus change-up.
• No official total has been anounced yet, but if Ben Badler of Baseball America's sources are correct, the $2.8 million the Blue Jays have reportedly given to Adonis Cardona would be a record for a Venezuelan amateur.  Badler also provides a more in-depth scouting report on Cardona.
• The Cubs have promoted pitcher Mitch Atkins, who will provide relief in their depleted bullpen, reports Andrew Pentis of MLB.com.
• Domonic Brown may not be in Triple-A very long, says David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News.
• Red Sox prospect Oscar Tejada has taken nicely to his new position at 2B after shifting over from SS at the start of the season, notes Pete Kerzel of MLB.com.

• It really is hard to believe that Kila Ka'aihue is still in the minors, regardless of the positional logjam the Royals have to contend with, says Jack Moore of Fan Graphs.com.
• Carlos Peguero's power has shown up this year after a difficult April, but his massive strikeout totals could eventually be a problem if he ever wants to don a Mariners' uniform, notes Guy Curtright of MiLB.com.
• The Angels promoted pitching prospect Tyler Chatwood to Double-A recently, and Mike Lemaire of Baseball America discusses the decision.
• The Blue Jays have made another splash in the international market, inking RHP Adonis Cardona, reports Tom Dakers of BlueBird Banter.com.  Cardona is a 6'4" 16-year-old out of Venezuela who already throws in the mid-90's.
