- In need of reinforcements for their pitching staff after Sunday's 19-inning epic, the Pittsburgh Pirates have called up pitching prospects Justin Wilson and Kyle McPherson, reports Kristy Robinson of PiratesProspects.com. The left-handed Wilson has been in the Pirates Triple-A rotation in Indianapolis all season, posting a 3.84 ERA and striking out almost a batter per inning. While he has been a starter throughout his minor league career, his power-arm and suspect command has led to talks of him ultimately finding a role in a major league bullpen, and this cameo could serve as an audition for a longer-stint in the Pirates bullpen this September. McPherson, on the other hand, started the season at Double-A Altoona, but the 24-year-old right-hander finally worked his way to Triple-A earlier this month. He won't overpower anybody, but he throws a ton of strikes.
- The Marlins have a double header coming up on Wednesday, and they will call up Jacob Turner to start the first game, says Michael Jong of FishStripes.com. Turner will be making his first major league start since coming over to the Marlins, but has made three starts in each of the past two years while with the Tigers, posting an 8.28 ERA over those six starts.
- With Carl Crawford electing to have season-ending surgery, the Red Sox will have to add a player to their roster, and as Jeff Louderback of BoSoxBanter points out, shortstop prospect Jose Iglesias was scratched from the Triple-A Pawtucket Sox lineup before their game on Monday night, suggesting that he could be called up to take Crawford's place on the roster. Iglesias has hit better of late, but still offers little offensively and has to make up the value with his glove.
