The Cardinals made a round of roster cuts yesterday, sending pitching prospects Shelby Miller and Joe Kelly, and third base prospect Zack Cox, says Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. Cox is expected to begin the year as the every day third baseman in Double-A.
- The Rays second round of roster cuts includes shortstop prospect Hak-Ju Lee, according to RaysProspects.com. Lee should head to Double-A to start the season after struggling there in just over 100 at-bats after a mid-season promotion in 2011.
- The Royals made their first round of cuts on Wednesday, sending a number of their top prospects to the back fields, including pitching prospects Jake Odorizzi, Mike Montgomery, Will Smith, Chris Dwyer and Noel Arguelles, and outfielder Wil Myers, says Dick Kaegel of MLB.com. Montgomery has a good chance of appearing back in Kansas City at some point in the 2012 season, assuming he stays healthy.
- The Braves have cut pitching prospects Erik Cordier (above) and Zeke Spruill, as well as outfield prospect Todd Cunningham, notes TalkingChop.com.
- The White Sox cut players on Wednesday, the most notable of whom was pitching prospect Jacob Petricka, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com.
