The Angels have sent Mike Trout to the minors, reports Bill Plunkett of the Ocean County Register.
The move was not unexpected, as the Angels had an overflow of outfielders on their roster this spring. With Peter Bourjos manning center field, major contracts to Torii Hunter and Vernon Wells clogging the corners, and Bobby Abreu and Kendrys Morales getting at-bats in DH, there was little room for Trout in the Angels lineup on a daily basis. That coupled with Trout missing most of March while battling a bad case of the flu gave the Angels reason enough to send Trout back to the minors.
Expect Trout to be back in Anaheim at some point this summer, especially if the team can move Abreu, or if Wells continues to struggle at the plate the way he didn in 2011.
