The Seattle Mariners have finally made the highly anticipated move their fans have been waiting for, promoting top prospect Dustin Ackley to the majors, reports Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. Ackley will be in uniform for the Mariners home game on Friday night.
In his final game in Triple-A, Ackley recorded two more hits, ending his minor league season (at least for the time being) with a .303/.421/.487 line. His overall numbers reflect a strong May and June, after Ackley batted just .211 in the month of April. Mariners fans may have to be patient with the young second baseman who has started slow in each of the last two years before adjusting to his new level of competition. That could be tough, however, as the city, team, and fans eagerly await the start of a new era of Mariners baseball.
