Despite impressing this spring, the St. Louis Cardinals have cut 2009 first-round pick Shelby Miller from their major league camp, sending him across to minor league spring training, reports Rick Hummell of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The transaction is a standard roster-trimming move, considering Miller had little chance to make the major league squad this spring.
Also sent out of major league camp was 2010 first-round pick Zack Cox, who was optioned to the minors. Cox is on the 40-man roster and therefore wasn't cut from camp, but instead the team used the first of his three minor league options. The third base prospect could head to Double-A to start the season, and could make a return to St. Louis at some point this season.
