Thanks to Kyle Kendrick's demotion and Jamie Moyer's elbow injury, the Philadelphia Phillies have promoted pitcher Vance Worley to serve as the long man in their depleted bullpen, reports Todd Zolecki of MLB.com. Worley, a former 3rd round pick by the Phillies, is a ground ball pitcher with above average control who had a ERA of 3.20 in Double-A at the time of his call-up.
The move could be temporary for Worley and was made in response to the team's need to use previous long-man Andrew Carpenter in relief of Moyer on Tuesday night. The team has sent Carpenter back down as a related transaction.
