Jared Mitchell, the Chicago White Sox' top draft pick from last year's draft, will be out for the entire 2010 season after tearing a tendon in his right ankle, reports John Manuel for Baseball America. Mitchell injured the ankle crashing into the outfield wall making a spectacular catch in a spring training game on Saturday. The injury will require surgery.
Mitchell, who also played football in college at LSU, is one of the premier athletes in minor leagues, so it will be interesting to see how his speed and quickness are affected once he gets back into game action. This is a significant setback for a player who's only main flaw was lack of baseball experience (due to sharing time with football).
