The New York Mets' catching situation is tenuous at best, which may result in catching prospect Josh Thole getting a chance to play every day behind the plate in 2010. This may please Mets' fans, as evidenced by this pro-Thole write-up by The NY Hot Corner, a Mets blog that likes the gritty style of Thole's game. And while true baseball fans typically find themselves rooting for guys like Thole who make the most out of their limited abilities, play hard, choke up on the bat and don't strike out, Thole's lack of power production of any kind may ultimately limit his ability to be an every-day player.
Thole did hit .321 in his brief major league call-up last season, adorning himself to Mets' fans, but he has yet to play in Triple-A, so he may need a little more time in the minors. Of course, with the Mets' next best option being Omar Santos, Thole may get his shot sooner than expected. This will be an interesting position battle to watch in Spring Training, and MLB Prospect Watch will keep you posted all Spring long.
