The San Francisco Giants were hoping to find a 5th starter and a short-term answer at catcher during the Winter Meetings. So far they're 0 for 2.
Because of that, reports John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle, GM Brian Sabean may be forced to start the season with prospects Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey on the major league roster, when he had preferred to let them start the season in Triple-A.
Sabean is still considering options outside the organization for both his starting catcher and 5th starter positions, but is being careful not to overspend for either and is comfortable going with prospects in both spots if needed.
