The Indians Prospect Insider blog examines the career (thus far) of 18-year-old RHP Clayton Cook, a prep draftee of the Indians in the 9th round in the 2008 draft, including a brief scouting report. Having signed for $115,000 in 2008, Cook has had some moderate success in short-season leagues the past two seasons, this year's coming against older competition in the New York-Penn League which typically features college draftees from that year.
While the blog overrates the potential of an 18-year old with less than a hundred professional innings under his belt and no full-season experience (naming him as a possible top-10 prospect for the Indians and comparing him to Nick Blackburn of the Minnesota Twins), Cook could nonetheless blossom into a reliable pitcher. His first year of full season ball (likely this year) will be the test.
