Link: Drabek Done for Season, Not Injured

Philadelphia Phillies top pitching prospect, Kyle Drabek, will not pitch for the remainder of the season, but is not injured, reports Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer.  The Phillies front office insists that Drabek feels fine, but they want to limit his innings as he is coming off of Tommy John surgery in 2007 and this is his first full season of pitching since the procedure.

In a post-trade deadline blockbuster, the Tampa Bay Rays acquired two prospects for left-handed pitcher Scott Kazmir, reports Buster Olney of ESPN.com.

The prospects were P Alexander Torres and 3B Matt Sweeney, and the Rays will also receive a player to be named later.  Torres spent most of the season in the hitter friendly California League, where he had a 10-3 record and a 2.74 ERA, before a recent promotion to Double-A, where he made 5 starts, going 3-1 with a 2.77 ERA.  The 21-year-old Venezuelan has always been able to miss bats (149 K's in 147 1/3 IP this season) despite his diminutive stature (he's listed as 5'10").  Sweeney is a left-handed hitting 3B with a career line of .285/.361/.492.  He missed all of 2008 with an ankle injury, but has bounced back nicely in 2009 to the tune of .299/.379/.517.

In an attempt to fill the void left in their outfield by multiple injuries, the Colorado Rockies have promoted prospect Eric Young, Jr. to the major leagues, reports Tracy Ringolsby of Inside the Rockies.  Young has played both 2B and CF in his minor league career, and was hitting .299/.387/.430 with 58 stolen bases at the time of his call up.
