Ryan Westmoreland, the Boston Red Sox fifth round pick in last year's draft, may not be able to play the field or throw yet, but that's not stopping his production at the plate, notes Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald.
Westmoreland had a full ride waiting for him to Vanderbilt University, but the Sox paid over-slot ($2 million) to sign the 5-tool player away from his collegiate committment. So far, the investment is paying off.
