Despite the advanced pace of some of his fellow 2008 draft-mates, Giants first-round pick (5th overall) Buster Posey will be brought along slowly as he develops the fine art of catching, report Henry Schulman and John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Posey's bat should be ready long before his glove, so his time table will be determined by how well he takes to such catching subtleties as blocking balls in the dirt and calling pitches. Despite not being a full-time catcher during his Florida State career, however, all indications are that Posey is picking up the trade quite well.
Posey should spend all of 2009 in the minors, likely starting in High-A or perhaps even Double-A, and progressing from there depending on performance.
