1st Round Draft Pick Page Updated

Our first round draft pick page has been updated to include Matt Hobgood (Baltimore Orioles) and Jared Mitchell (Chicago White Sox).

• No one knows quite who to compare the Seattle Mariners first-round pick Dustin Ackley to, but as Larry Stone of the Seattle Times reports, all the comparisons are good.
• Those critics who are calling the Baltimore Orioles selection of Matt Hobgood at number 5 overall a reach are siting signability as the main reason, but as Mike Klingaman of the Baltimore Sun reports, his off the charts makeup and 98 MPH fastball may have had something to do with it. 
• The Arizona Diamondbacks had a number of early picks, and took some serious power prospects with two of them, corner infielders Bobby Borchering (16th overall) and Matt Davidson (35th overall).  Annabelle Tometich of the (Fort-Myers, Fla.) News-Press discusses Borchering's unique training regimens throughout high school, while Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic comments on Davidson's performance taking batting practice at Chase Field after being signed.

MLB Prospect Watch would like to welcome all the members of the 2009 Draft Class (not just the first rounders) to the MLBPW family.  We will be keeping you up to date on the progress of all of the 2009 draftees throughout their minor league careers, from signing to the majors.  As soon as these young players sign (we refuse to inundate you with talk of agents and negotiations), MLBPW will announce their placement and chart their progress on a daily basis.
